We’re actively searching for more ways to improve our sustainability. Here are some of our current practices:
- We work with suppliers who plant trees as they are felled in the forest.
- Clearing mature trees at the peak of their yield potential provides younger trees with more light and resources to renew the forest.
- During processing, zero waste is created from the logs of the tree. What does not make it into the final product becomes a variety of materials, from shipping palettes to bedding for livestock.
- All of our cardboard packaging is zero-waste. Cardboard scraps are processed and utilized for packing material.
Our hardwood products manufactured with kiln dried material with ~6-9% moisture content. Wood is susceptible to movement, shrinkage, expansion, and warping if exposed to uncontrolled environments with sharp changes in temperature or humidity, such as a storage facility, container, tractor trailer, etc. It is crucial to move the wood into a controlled environment as soon as possible after delivery. Hardwood products should be stored in a controlled environment between 55º-85ºF and 30-50% humidity. Failure to maintain the relative humidity and temperature ranges outlined here may void the warranty.
Crow Works may heat shrink wood products as needed, which will help to reduce warping when stored. The items are wrapped as a pallet, not individually. The seal should not be broken unless in a controlled environment (55º-85ºF temperature, 30%-50% humidity). If the seal is broken, the products will need to be individually re-wrapped once opened. Ideally, wood products should be stored in warehouses for no longer than 4 weeks before installation.
We qualify for a number of LEED credits, but we are not certified by LEED.
